Architect Sarah Wigglesworth leads a tour of her multi-award winning live/work scheme, 9/10 Stock Orchard Street.
Completed in 2001, 9/10 Stock Orchard Street was built to be the home of architect Sarah Wigglesworth and architect-educator Jeremy Till and also contains the offices of Sarah Wigglesworth Architects. With this experimental self-build project, her first, Sarah acquainted herself with methods of building using a palette of ordinary materials. Straw bales provide insulation for the home’s bedroom wing and sandbags provide a barrier against the noise of the train line adjacent to the plot. Elsewhere, materials such as recycled concrete in the gabions, railway sleepers and newspaper are upcycled from other products. Although now over twenty years old, the buildings have instigated an ongoing debate about the use of resources and aesthetics in current architecture.
This event is part of the programme complementing our current exhibition, Architects’ Houses.
There will be two tours. Click below to book your preferred time slot.
