The Soane Youth Panel, inspired by our new exhibition Soane & Modernism: Make it New, have created their unique intervention Make it You, which displays and reinterprets artworks from different periods to highlight key thematic similarities and differences between Classicism and Modernism.

Youth Panel members have chosen ‘Interior perspective of the principal staircase, unexecuted, Holwood House, Kent’ by Joseph Michael Gandy to represent Classicism, and ‘Lisson Gallery stair details’ by Tony Fretton to represent Modernism. The immersive installation of geometric mirror cubes and ivy-draped columns further contrasts these key themes and invites visitors to reflect upon the use of light and space by Sir John Soane, his contemporaries and modern architects. Take a mirror selfie and share it on social media via the accompanying hashtag #MakeItYou and scan the QR code to listen to the carefully curated Make It You playlist.

Make It You runs Wednesday 12 February – Sunday 9 March and is free to visit.

The Soane Youth Panel is a group of young people aged 15–24 who live, work or study in London. They help Sir John Soane’s Museum shape the activities, events and opportunities we offer young people. It is made possible by the generous support of the Anthony and Elizabeth Mellows Charitable Settlement.
