Study Groups, Lectures & Tours
Saturday Lecture Tour
A member of the curatorial staff gives a lecture tour of the Museum
to members of the public at 11am on Saturday mornings. There is a small
charge of £5 and the tickets are available to the first 20 people after
10.30. Students and children are free.
We regret that advance bookings cannot be accepted. Inevitably there
are many more visitors than there are places on the tour and we regret
any disappointment caused for those unable to go on the tour.
The Soane Museum Study Group
The Soane Museum Study Group was founded in the autumn of 1995. It
was conceived as a forum for the presentation of new research on all
periods of architectural history, with a particular focus on 'work in
progress'. The audience is an invited, academic one and the meetings
- held every six weeks - are usually full (between 40 -50 people). For more information please contact Bethany
Kingston, Education Manager on +44 (0) 20 7440 4254.
The Annual Soane Lecture
The annual 'Soane Lecture' was inaugurated in March 1996 when Dr David
Watkin of the University of Cambridge gave a public lecture on 'Sir
John Soane: Enlightenment Thought and the Royal Academy Lectures' at
the Royal College of Surgeons, in Lincoln's Inn Fields just opposite
the Museum. Since then the lectures have been given by Dr William
Curtis (1997); Professor James Ackermann (1998); Charles Jencks (2000);
Brian Lukacher (2001); Marcus Binney (2002); Professor Joe Mordaunt
Crook (2003), Dr Robin Middleton (2004); Professor John Wilton Ely (2005)
and Dr Frank Salmon (2006).
The museum publishes a Newsletter
which is available on this site.
Special 'Study Visits' for Groups
Due to the redevelopment of our education space we will be unable to
offer this service until later in 2008. For more information please contact Bethany
Kingston, Education Manager on +44 (0) 20 7440 4254.
